Since 1773, deeds, mortgages and related real estate documents have been recorded in Westmoreland County's Recorder of Deeds Office. In recent years, a great deal of effort has been expended to modernize and streamline the process, much to the benefit of those filing documents as well as those conducting research.
Documents to be filed are either carried into the Recorder of Deeds Office by person or sent in through the mail. Each document is carefully recorded and returned to its owner. To learn more details about the recording process, follow the links above.
It is important to note that the recording of any document is not an approval of its contents. The Recorder of Deeds Office only records the records that are presented and does not certify that the contents are correct. All records except Military Discharges are open to the public.
